One of the main differences between the new site and the old is that each of the tracks in the Portfolio page makes use of an image, and so graphics have needed to take much more of a front-seat than I'm used to previously. Having looked over some suggestions of stock photography websites, I decided it be a much more fun idea to hire a photographer I actually know, drive them around a few choice locations, and essentially make a portfolio in a day - so that's what I did!
I'm fortunate enough to have been friends with Katy of RocketLolly for a good number of years and have been a fan of her photographer from the first sample I saw. Her work combines a sensitivity to colour, detail and spacing with a constant need for adventure, imagination and excitement; to this end a trip to the abandoned shell of Boys Village was an absolute must!
Alongside this must-visit jewel of South Wales, we took time to shoot in my own studio, Cardiff Bay, and another friend's flat. We were also lucky enough to be allowed unhindered (and encouraged!) access to the underbelly of MusicBox Studios and the goldmine of antiquity that is The Pumping Station.
It was a brilliant day, with over 450 shots taken, and for anyone who's in a similar state of needing an individual, rights reserved portfolio of images I'd absolutely recommend discussing it with a local photographer. Based on how much it can be to purchase individual images, to book out a certain number of well-planned hours to go snap-happy has paid off for me no end, and it's certainly an avenue to consider.
The shots will be seen throughout the site in the coming months, but here are a choice few to share:
